Hello, my name is Clinton, and I’ve been on death row for seventeen years, incarcerated since 2001. Before I begin, I want to make it clear I’m not seeking any manner of monetary assistance, just friendship. One of the reasons I have embarked on this journey is I have so much free time and would like to do something positive in this negative environment. The other reason is I like writing and receiving letters. They bring a ray of sunshine into my otherwise ordinary day. I am an open-minded, glass half full kind of guy who enjoys meeting new people. Since I’m thankful that someone took time out of their busy day to write me a letter, I will respond to every one I receive.

As I’m sure some of you may have researched me before or after reading my profile, let me spend a few seconds talking about my crime. Although it was a horrific accident, I do take responsibility for my actions, and I will spend the rest of my life wishing I could change what happened. My deep remorse for what I did almost destroyed me, including numerous suicide attempts and even wanting the state to execute me.

It took a long time, but God finally broke through my wall of grief. He convinced me that He loves and forgives me, that I can be saved. I have been a Christian ever since. Because of His mercy and grace, I’m able to live my life with an optimistic attitude.

The past twenty years have been some of the most difficult and life-changing. Through everything, I now strive to have as much of a positive impact on my relationships as possible. I know I can never make amends for what I’ve done, but that won’t keep me from trying. Even though I am a Christian, my faith is personal, and I don’t try to force my thoughts and beliefs on anyone. I do not offend easily unless presented with hostility and outright disrespect. With a decent knowledge of current events, I am receptive to all topics of conversation. I also like learning about all areas of life.

My tastes in movies, shows, music, and novels are quite eclectic. I really enjoy watching movies, everything from “Ghost” and “Dirty Dancing” to “Paranormal Activity” and “Transformers.” At the risk of seeming less masculine, I must admit to shedding a tear or two over happy or sad endings in movies like “City of Angels.” Although I know love isn’t for me anymore, I’m still a hopeless romantic at heart and prefer my shows, movies and novels to have happily ever afters. My favorite movie of all time is “The Story of Us” starring Bruce Willis and Michelle Pfeiffer. If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it, in my opinion, the ultimate love story. In music, I listen to everything from R & B to classical and everything in between. Heavy metal and Christian contemporary are my favorites. I know, quite a combination, huh?

Some of the singers and groups I like are Casting Crowns, Chris Tomlin, Need to Breathe, Flyleaf, Korn, Staind, Metallica, Mudvayne, Celine Dion, Alison Krauss, and Whitney Houston. The shows I’ve watched are all over the place, too. Some of them are “Castle,” “Gossip Girl,” “GCB,” “The Mentalist,” “Vampire Diaries,” “Nikita,” “Once Upon a Time,” “Grimm,” “Games of Thrones,” “NCIS:LA,” “Chicago PD,” “Masterchef,” “Supernatural,” “Smallville,” “Arrow,” and “Big Brother.”

I absolutely love reading and will devour almost anything, even a non-fiction one like Unbroken or Lone Survivor on the rare occasion; but I enjoy reading supernatural, romance, and fantasy books the most. Some of the authors I like are Robert B. Parker (Spencer novels), Christine Feehan, Dick Francis, Kim Harrison, Robin Cook, and my favorite, Nora Roberts. Along with reading, I try to keep my brain active by doing crossword or other puzzles.

I’m an avid sports fan, but I can discuss other things. I like football, basketball, and racing. In regards to football and basketball, I follow both college and pro. I don’t have any favorite teams; I just enjoy the competition. I also enjoy the Olympics.

I’ve been told I’m a good listener. I can do very little from this cell, but if you’ve had a bad day or merely want to vent your frustrations about life in general, then I will be here to listen. I’m here for you. Don’t worry about burdening me with your issues because I’m on death row. Nothing pleases me more than hearing how one of my letters has lifted someone’s spirits after a depressing day. It gives me the feeling of making a difference, a small one mind you, but a difference nonetheless. I may not have a choice as to where I live anymore, but I do have a say in HOW I live, and I choose to live my life with three P’s: Positivity, Productivity, and Profundity.

It’s a sad but undeniable fact that the art of letter writing is slowly fading into nonexistence, thanks to social media and technology. While some may be okay with that, others appreciate having something tangible in hand to read whenever they want, and it gives them a reason to look forward to going to the mailbox instead of boring trips just to collect bills and junk mail. Plus, if a handwritten letter happens to brighten their day, even better. Since you’re reading this, I’m guessing you’re in the latter group, as am I.

Well, I think that about wraps it up. I hope some of you will give me the opportunity to show that some of the views about inmates are incorrect. We (especially death row) are so often stereotyped, but many of us are actually pretty decent guys who have each experienced an incredibly bad and tragic moment in life. Our lives are not defined by that moment.

Before I go, I would like to thank every one of you for visiting my page and reading my profile. I appreciate your time. Lastly, if you want a friend who will listen, someone you can vent your frustrations to, or just someone to talk to, I welcome your letters. I look forward to hearing from you.
