Stumbling Blocks to Stepping Stones

My life is about turning stumbling blocks into stepping stones. I define stumbling blocks as those things that not only cause failure, but has the potential to keep tripping me up- if I allow them. Stepping stones, however, are those experiences I learn from; they keep me moving forward and allow me to overcome.

That being said -my life is full of stumbling blocks- and those stumbling blocks, along with the nature of my crime, plus me currently serving a life sentence, have created challenges when it comes to meeting others. Please understand- I’m not seeking a relationship- however, I would like to make new acquaintances.

My first thought for this page is that it be used as a platform to share with my immediate family and loved ones. Secondary, I hope as people come across my page, it will raise curiosity, leading them to ask why/how I became incarcerated. Lastly, it is my hope to simply interact with new people outside of my family and incarcerated peers.

I have been incarcerated since 2010. I have been working as a Peer Support Specialist since 2022. I keep busy in my community by facilitating support groups and individual sessions, helping with services, fundraisers, planning activities/events and other peer programs. I also attend town hall meetings and serve as a staff/peer mediator.

Some random truths: I’m originally from North Carolina; my parents and siblings are my heart. I joined the military at age 17. I served 13.5 years; was married for 20 years; I’m an introvert by nature- but I’ve learned I enjoy getting to know others; I’m learning to say “NO”; I’m most creative when I’m bored! I like to laugh and surround myself with positive influences. I genuinely enjoy life and learn to make the best of most situations.

I’m open-minded, nonjudgmental. You don’t have to believe or have the same ideologies as me to reach out. I believe talking about differences can contribute to having better connections.

Thank you for stopping by; I hope to hear from you.
