To a friend in the making,

You are special… and what makes you unique is that you are reading this letter, trying to make a new friend, to share yourself with others. May you find what you are looking for. May you be inspired by this letter and find me, your new best friend.

My name is John Henry Luckett, I’ve been incarcerated since the age of 16 and have been rehabilitated into something great. I love to inspire as well as be inspired. I consider myself a self-taught poet. I believe in loyalty and respect. You’ll motivate me, and I’ll think of ways to motivate you, to be the best friend possible under these circumstances, to make you smile, and to make you believe in the power of friendship.

I also love sports, reading, writing, and working out. I listen to a variety of music. I love learning and getting to know new people. If you write, I promise to write you back and be the best friend I can be.

John Luckett AKA St. John / Saint Republic

P.S. When writing… prison mail policy only allows up to two one-sided pages for incoming mail. Smiles!

A Man’s Dialogue, from SaintRepublic

Tongues of judgment, raging like the tidal waves of a raging sea
…Am I less than a man, because I am a Cv.?
Could-you say?

Let me discharge my soul, in flammable oils,
and strike a match,
catch fire, a fire starter, a man,
but to you, I’m just a Cv.

I am frozen in time,
when judgment presses the mute button on civil societies
…no one bears my judgment, He, is my advocate, and time reveals it
…insanity isn’t a Heavenly word,
love is pure,
but to you, I’m just a Cv.,
or could you say?

And she, she looks upon me as if I stink,
No money, no car,
confined to a cell, or four walls
…and what can St. John offer any rose from the Omnipotent’s garden?

The foundations of the earth will shake,
when my kingdom has come
…in society’s eye, I’ll always be a convict.

Look into pure darkness, and see the light.
Last night, I shared living waters in dry and deserted places,
Angels sang to me, in the hollow of my soul.

Appointed of a scriptural presentation,
as if the stories untold (repetition),
until the mysteries unfold.

A Cv., with no degree,
My justice found in theology,
Infatuation exploited, if you understand me publicly
…but to you, I’m just a Cv.
