John is 39 and incarcerated in the US (NC).
Growing up in Sandwich, Illinois, I never thought I’d end up in a North Carolina prison. My dreams did not include prison, but it’s where I ended up. My family provided a good life for me, and encouraged me to do all kinds of things – which I did not do. Oops. Childhood for me was mostly normal, but took a trajectory that landed on the beaten zone of incarceration. My story has lows that are epic and highs that barely lasted. Great times in my life include seeing the world as a Marine, training shelter dogs, earning a bachelor’s degree and serving the inmate population as a Field Minister. Plus, I learned Law to help myself, but turned out others need help also.
At present, I love to read the Bible in its original languages. The highest point for me though, was accepting Christ into my heart. The twists and turns leading to here are quite colorful and I look forward to sharing them with you.
I also think it’s important to inform you that I thoroughly enjoy music and the occasional 80’s or 90’s movie. And know this… I am a comedian at heart! So, laughing is essential. But seriously, I hope to discover some pen pals who also enjoy a laugh and would like to dive into the story of each other. So let’s share, learn and laugh together.
