Dear someone special:
Hi. My name is Maurice Wallace. I am a 43-year-old black American man. On or about July 21 2006. I received a state prison sentence of natural life (without the possibility of parole) for homicide. On August 1st 2006, I entered into the Illinois Department of Correction (IDOC). Almost immediately thereafter, I was thrown into solitary confinement where I’d languish in mental pain and anguish for 15 years. I wasn’t released until December of 2020. However, immediately following my release from solitary confinement, I was relegated to administrative detention (a shiny form of solitary confinement). In October of 2021, I was transferred from administrative detention to a so-called “step-down” program where I’d reside for nearly six months trying to adjust – to no avail. Today I’m housed in the facility’s general population, where I struggle daily to adjust to the myriad (sights, sounds and smells). Admittedly, some days are better than others. However, for me, each day is very lonely.

This explain why I made the decision to access a prisoner pen-pal site. Loneliness. I’m searching for someone to build a friendship. Someone not afraid of my past, willing to listen, and patient. Age is not an obstacle. Although, I do, however, find both mental acumen and emotional maturity very flattering. I do NOT believe in failure, and aim to complete my college education in prison. Overall, I’m typically an optimist.

If I seem like someone that you might want to write, let’s communicate. Until then, peace! Sincerely yours,
Maurice Wallace.
