Aaron is 29 and incarcerated in the US (MI).
I never know what to say in these things. I have 7 months left before I can go home. I write quite a lot. Songs, poems, anything. Words are powerful. They create & destroy. It’s the only thing I’ve found that makes sense of the craziness.
Everyone always tries to sound smart or interesting in these. My truth is I’m just Aaron. I’m not the smartest. I’m not the most interesting, but I know who I am. Incarceration taught me that.
In here, you’re all alone with your demons so it’s easy to know what you’re made of, and my momma was right. Love ya, ma. I am made for something.
My whole life, I doubted myself. Assisted by addiction, I convinced myself I deserved nothing. Learning to love myself was the 2nd hardest thing I’ve ever done.
I can’t promise you money, I can’t promise you I can take the pain away, I can’t promise you I have all the answers.
I can promise you, though, that I know and love myself wholly, and that’s a really good step to loving you.
A friend, a willing ear, or whatever you decide of me. I want for you what I want of me—the very best.
