Before the concept become a factor in my life, a lot of my choices, especially as young teen, was born out of immaturity. As a result, I made some costly mistakes.
Although my childhood phase had been filled with unimaginable dreams and zeal, somewhere along the way I traded away those dreams to chase “street” dreams. But, it wasn’t long before I woke up and found myself – incarcerated. While incarcerated, I learned that wisdom doesn’t come from an old age or gray hair, but from maturity and knowledge.
Once I was able to ascertain wisdom through experience (maturity & knowledge). I revisited my value system where I found myself renewed, along with my first dreams and zeal. Commitment to the proper course provided me with greater understanding. Nowadays I find solace listening to, expressing and writing poems, creative writing, reading books, indulging in fruitful and refine topics, listening to soul music, and spending as much quality time with family as possible.

What I seek most from this journey is a chance to meet new people and develop true friendship. Perhaps, a woman who enjoys having fun conversations, sharing thoughts, laughter, ignite positivity, genuinely be herself, and open enough to allow someone special to add something special to this interaction.

From Venus’ flytrap flowers reaching to get nourishment from the solar winds.
I’m from a historic plantation turned maximum security facility.
Where bodies have their limits, but creative minds break free.
When winter/summer blends and the strongest relationships bend like a palm tree.
I’m from grandpa’s struggles and grandma’s insecurities.
I am from low-income projects, welfare checks and social security.
I am from humble beginnings, and from a mother with unwavering characteristics.
I am from kings and queens that once wore crowns on their head.
From family down south to up north bred.
Ham bogs, chicken dumplings and hot water cornbread.
I’m from around the time of red Kool-Aid and microwave TV dinners.
I remember the temptations, the O’Jays and the spinners.
I am from a lineage that made it through the struggles and became winners.
I’m from the future, the new, and the days of old.
