Salaam, my name is Angela,
I am a lifer with no possibility of parole, and I am very serious about making good use of my time. I spend my time in between prayers with my sisters, studying, teaching, reading, writing, and striving to unite prisoners towards common goals.
I attend lectures given by the most extraordinary professors on earth, and I attempt to put what they teach into practice on the yard by scheduling small groups where we meet to write and perform plays, write and read poetry, and try to find creative ways to make our time here more productive and beneficial.
I’ve written a few books published on Amazon and LuLu by my family under my Muslim name/pseudonym Shajiyah Iman. I also put together a weekly newsletter called HTMD (Hidden Transparency of Monarch Dandelions) for our unit’s PRISM (Prisoners Refined In Strategic Motion).
I have political essays and some religious commentary published in different places as well. I recently started submitting short stories, poems, and essays to contests around the country.
For non-written art, my best work is in Arabic calligraphy, but whatever has been asked of me I’ve done my best to provide, whether it was drawing or painting.
