I’m Ben. Thanks for clicking in and checking out my profile. I was referred to this service by a friend who has made many good connections here, so the possibility of making some connections myself has me very excited. That could be you! 😛

The reason that I’m looking for connections here is multifaceted. The majority of my family has passed, I’m not originally from the state that I’m incarcerated in, and frankly, I don’t really enjoy the company of the majority of the inmates here, so my pool of friends and acquaintances definitely isn’t Olympic size. Here though, I have the chance to reach countless people who might share the same or similar interests and ideals, which I believe is the perfect starting point for the best and most meaningful connections.

So, now for the awkward part where I talk about myself. lol

I guess I could best be described as a geek or a nerd. Although geek is supposed to be chic now, right? Well, I was one before it was fashionable. Think Big Bang character built with pizzazz. And you can’t have pizzazz without pizza, and who doesn’t like pizza?

I absolutely love science; every field interests me in one way or another (Wakka Wakka!). It’s probably because of this that I really enjoy the science fiction genre (any other Rick and Morty lovers out there? Aw, geez). Some other sci-fi things I enjoy are: Star Trek, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (book and BBC show), Star Wars, Futurama- pretty much anything to do with outer space, robots, teleporters, or consoles with blinking lights and ‘bling bling’ noises.

I am a big movie fanatic. I love pretty much every type and genre of movie, from silent films up to present-day. My favorite genres are horror and comedy. Some of my favorite films are: Fright Night, Interview with the Vampire, The Thing, The Fly, The NeverEnding Story, Gremlins, The Blue Lagoon, Back to the Future, Robocop, Beetlejuice, The Lady in White, Legend, It’s a Wonderful Life, and many, many more.

I enjoy games of all kinds, but I have a special affinity for video games. I love all kinds of video games, from vintage to retro all the way through to current PS4 or VR tech. If you know what the Konami code is by heart, you are a kindred spirit. I also love tabletop RPG games such as D&D and Pathfinder. I even play fantasy card games like Magic The Gathering or Pokémon (Pokémon Go for mobile is still a fav).

When I’m finally paroled, I’m even looking forward to trying out cosplay.

You know, when I look back at what I’ve written, I realize that I might be a bigger nerd than I thought… :-s

I hold a degree in Electronics Engineering and have a lesser certification in Semiconductor Manufacturing (you know- super geek stuff). As for my profession, I am an electrician. I find that vocation keeps me fit and mentally stimulated (plus I get to work with cool power tools- Vroom! Whir! Smash! Uh-oh…!).

In here, I mostly spend my time reading non-fiction books. I figure why not use the time to learn about as many subjects that interest me as possible. So far, I’ve studied: beekeeping, programming in Python, microbiology, natural antibiotics / antivirals, composting, garden farming, alternative energy, small-scale steam boilers, aviation, anatomy, intensive carpentry, and many types of art. I’m also pretty well-read in many classic fiction authors. My favorites are Steinbeck for old and Crichton for newer.
