Daniel is 39 and incarcerated in the US (CA).
Prison yards are like towns, and I am sort of like a city council member, but the kind you don’t want to punch in the face. LOL!
I am a dog trainer; I help train Labrador Retrievers and Golden Retrievers in a special program for Guide Dogs of America. We train service dogs for autistic children and veterans with PTSD. I’m proud of the work, as I can make tangible amends for the actions of my past. Plus, doggies!
I’m a writer, journalist, and community organizer in here. People look to me for guidance and as a role model; I’m sober and haven’t engaged in criminal activity for years. I facilitate a self-help group for criminals and gang members who want to change and reintegrate into society. I get to see the change in the way these men think and speak. I am unmaking criminals and remaking civilians.
I’m a regular with the Prison Journalism Project. I cover stories about the changing face of incarceration in the California prison system. Sometimes I interview people who are very important to the rehabilitation movement in our state. I recently won a writing award from Tufts University, to be published in January 2025.
I play the guitar, and lately, I’ve been composing songs. My most loved genres are Metal, Pop, R&B, and EDM. I plan to study Tango and Jazz guitar too.
I am working towards my Bachelor’s Degree, and I am on track to join the University of California at Irvine as an undergrad.
I am working on getting out of prison by proving that I belong in society, trying to right my wrongs. I’m looking for cool people from outside to be friends with.
