Clayton is 32 and incarcerated in the US (CA).
My name is Clay and I am 32 years old. I work as a peer literacy mentor at San Quentin State Prison.
I have learned that life is too short to wait for friends to come into my life. I am a firm believer that if you put yourself out there, the right people will find you. Everyone I used to know is still doing the same things, and since I have changed my life, I have no interest in going backwards. “They are in your past for a reason”, I’ve heard it said. Though this may be true, it does not make it any less lonely to journey through life without friends to call you on your BS.
I am a writer for the Prison Journalism Project (C.R. Addleman) and Humans of San Quentin. Look me up and see for yourself. If you’re interested in having a friend who has been through hell and has come out as a better person, I’m your man. As a matter of fact, I have a challenge for you, and if you decide to contact me, answer me this: How would you describe yourself in only 300 words? For me, it has always been a challenge. The world only sees me for the worst things I’ve ever done. Most people don’t even know I exist, and those of you that do, all you know is my crime, but I am so much more than the sum of my worst mistakes. I’ll tell you what, don’t judge me and I won’t judge you, and let’s see where that takes us.
Thanks for reading.
