Hector is 38 and incarcerated in the US (IL).
First, I want to say, whoever is successful in capturing adequately the essence of their lives in 350 words or less is a magician. Bear with me as I do my best. I hope by the end you decide you’re willing to build something of substance, and we become a new chapter in one another’s lives.
I have now been incarcerated 17 years. It has been filled with setbacks and hard truths to learn from. A lesson life has taught me is that all blood isn’t family and all family isn’t blood. A difficult lesson to learn, but even more trying to accept. I hope this service gives me the opportunity to share my interest while I learn from yours. Bring laughs and smiles as we share our perception of life and our individual journey through this world.
I’m sure everyone proclaims they are loyal and selfless. Well, I won’t tell you those things about myself, but I will ask that you give me the chance to be those things to you.
I keep a good relationship with music. I’m all over the place in my tastes, as long as there is a beat my heart can find a way to relate. Music has also infused energy into my exercise routines. I also like to read, further my education, and find positive ways to challenge myself.
Speaking of challenges, I took the leap and included some poetry I wrote for the first time. Be kind in your responses to it. LOL
I encourage and welcome any and everyone to take a chance and reach out. I would like to believe I am worth a chance.
Beauty in the Struggle
I come from the harshest conditions /
Rough childhood /
Bad circumstances and decisions led me to prison /
Influenced by this environment /
Full of misery, bitterness, anger, and resentment /
Desperately hanging on to hope /
Not ready to accept this fate /
But all the hate and accusations start getting hard to escape /
I navigate a new path forged thru this treacherous domain /
Locked in this new vision /
Proud of who I became /
Now I see the beauty in the struggle and opportunities /
Dive deeper than these tattoos, blank stare, and you shall see /
Different walks of life but the substance surprisingly the same /
We’re all human /
Same goals, values, and scars from the pain /
So come walk on a road less traveled /
Same world /
Different view /
And watch the struggles unravel /
