Hi, my name is Landon, but I prefer to go by Josh now. My mom still calls me Landon because she’s been doing it for so long—it’s hard to break the habit! I’m a good guy who made some bad choices for a while, but I’ve finally started to see the error of my ways. I’m not perfect and still working on myself, as I think we all should throughout our lives.

One thing I’ve learned is that I have a tendency to end up with women who aren’t the best match for me. What I really need is a strong-minded, spiritual, loving, and independent woman who can be supportive as I work toward the goals I’ve set for myself when I’m released. Drama? I’ve had plenty of that and am ready to leave it behind.

I’m a hopeless romantic, above average in intelligence, and well-read. I love writing poetry and am very artistic—but spelling? Not my strongest skill! I went to automotive school in my early 20s, and I’m a jack of all trades. I can fix cars and remodel or repair houses. Honestly, when I put my mind to it, I can do just about anything. My mom already has a list of repairs lined up for me to tackle when I get out!

Before I ended up here, I owned and operated a contracting business called Hance Handyman, focusing on remodeling and house repairs. My life took a turn in 2011 after I lost my sister in a motorcycle accident. It hit me hard, and I didn’t have the emotional support I needed because my mom was also struggling with her grief. I spiraled out of control, ended up in a meth house, and made a series of bad decisions.

While there, I had to defend myself during an attack, and I shot another resident. The court recognized this as self-defense, and although I was initially charged with second-degree murder, I was convicted of involuntary manslaughter instead. I’ve taken responsibility for my actions and am determined to rebuild my life when I’m released.

Right now, I’m incarcerated in the Missouri Department of Corrections and expect to be out in 1–2 years. I have a 17-year-old son who lives with my mom and is heading to college soon. I’m hoping to make it to his high school graduation. When I get out, I plan to restart my handyman business. I’m still deciding whether to stay in Kansas City or move back to Texas, where I was born and raised. Texas feels like home, and I have two sisters there.

If you’d like to write to me, I’d truly appreciate it. Human connection makes all the difference in getting through these last couple of years. Unfortunately, the DOC isn’t exactly a great place for support. Thank you for considering reaching out!
