Often Misunderstood.

If a charming smile and a pair of kind eyes happen to reside on my face at first sight.
Know that it will never mask the struggle and hardships I’ve faced in this life of mine.
Never wonder why it’s a mean my and heartless facial expression I tend to provide most of the time.
Please understand and don’t be deterred if I happen to look like the unapproachable type of guy.
It’s true, gang tattoos and old battle scars cover the majority of my body.
It’s up to you, to dig deep, put tats aside and see the golden heart that shines inside of me.
Often misunderstood not even insight into my entire life can shed some light to those who’ve already judged me.
Never will I alter the negative judgment casted by those who choose to be intentionally blinded.
Only a different perspective and an open-mind to the life I lead and was raised in,
Will hopefully lead you to see the man I am and why I ended up incarcerated.
Raised in the hood fatherless, my single mother was out of sight working long shifts to provide for the family.
Roaming the streets looking up to the homies I’ve been in and out of the penal system since a shorty.
It’s really no surprise, my life behind these walls or an early grave was unfortunately destined for a kid like me.
Often misunderstood many can’t relate to the life I lead or fathom the only one god has provided me.
Now don’t you shy away from me, I’ve been accustomed to people pumping the breaks and avoiding me at first sight of me
Nevertheless, I’m writing this poem from behind the wire with hope that you’re feeling this and contact me.
Often misunderstood I might be, but I will never allow it to be the only thing that defines me
Enter my life with an open mind and see that there is much more to me than meets the eye.
